The Widened Lens

On a spontaneous summer night, a few friends and I drove hours south to a secluded Texas state park. Stars illuminated our workspace as we set up tripods and attached camera bodies to lenses. To photograph stars, you have to collect as much light as possible on the sensor. The wider the aperture, the more light it lets in. After two hours balanced on a shaky lake dock, the images revealed a galaxy invisible to the naked eye.

It takes one camera with a widened lens; one individual with an open mind to see the world’s hidden beauty.

That’s what pulls me toward photography. Wider lenses, wider perspectives, stories waiting in places I haven’t been yet and people I have not met. From Ethiopia’s village streets to the beaches of Da Nang, my goal is to capture the moments passing glances would miss.

Closer to home, I still take a limited number of senior, family, and couples sessions around Fort Worth and DFW. There’s always more to a person than what’s on the surface, and that’s what I capture and celebrate through my camera.
